About Us

Our aim is to share investment experience accumulated through active involvement in a range of different investment management businesses over the last 35 years.

Helene Jelman ACA, ACSI

Helene has more than 25 years investment management experience serving a range of clients from large institutional investors including major US public and corporate pension funds and a sovereign wealth fund to small charitable foundations and private clients.

Helene started her career as an auditor in the financial services division of PwC London, where she qualified as a Chartered Accountant. After qualification, she joined Cazenove as a French equity analyst before moving to Deutsche Asset Management to manage their European small-cap funds. She later joined Arlington Capital Investors as a Partner and Chief Investment Officer (CIO) where she was responsible for the investment function. As a member of the Executive Committee, she was also involved in business development, client reporting and general business oversight. She later joined GO Investment Partners as an Investment Director and Partner.

In 2012, Helene founded Goldlake Capital to provide consulting services to investment management firms. In 2015, Goldlake Capital was authorised and regulated by the FCA as an investment management business. The firm provided discretionary portfolio management services to UK and US foundations and private clients. Helene oversaw the formation of the business, the FCA application process and the on-going running of the business. She was directly responsible for setting up processes and controls, for managing the investment function as well as for ensuring compliance with FCA regulations.

In 2021, the firm transferred its discretionary portfolio management business to PK Wealth (now part of Shackleton Advisers) and ceased to be authorised and regulated by the FCA. Helene was a member of the PK Wealth’s Investment Committee between 2021 and 2025 where she worked alongside Michael Usher.

Helene holds a BSc in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Sussex and a Masters in Globalisation and Development from the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London).

Helene is a trustee and chair of the Finance and Investment Committee of the DD McPhail Charitable Settlement.

Michael Usher

Michael has more than 30 years of investment experience and has been involved in setting up and operating Discretionary Investment Services for a number of companies.

Michael joined Brooks Macdonald in April 1992, six months after the formation of the company. As a director and shareholder, he helped to grow the business over a 19-year period including a successful flotation on AIM in March 2005. Over the six-year period following flotation, assets under management grew from £315 million to just over £3 billion.

Whilst at Brooks Macdonald, Michael ran an investment team and sat on various committees including risk management, custody, treasury and compliance.

In 2011 Michael joined a London based firm of Independent Financial Planners and as a director, Chief Investment Officer and shareholder, set up a Discretionary Investment Management service which grew to over £200 million in assets under management.

Responsibilities included formation and ongoing management of the investment process, performance track record, new business development and client relations.

In 2016 Michael joined PK Group, a mixed practice firm of Accountants and Financial Planners where again he helped to set up PK Wealth, a Discretionary Investment Management Service. As Group Director, Chief Investment Officer and shareholder, responsibilities were the same as above.

More recently, Michael worked on a capital raising project which led to the successful sale of the Financial Services and Accountancy divisions of PK Group to separate private equity backed purchasers.
